Tony Albert's works for Unity were developed during a residency for In Cahoots: artists collaborate across Country in remote and regional Aboriginal art centres across Australia. Artists from six key Aboriginal art centres invited leading independent artists – both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal – from around the country to work with them. The resulting collaborative artworks are significant, striking and bold in their inventive use of materials.
Albert worked with over 40 of the Warakurna Artists in a workshop facilitation and collaborative artwork capacity. They have created a significant body of work that includes a series of collaborative paintings, printed mini blankets, a series of large-scale digital photographs, and a vast installation of sculptural and relief works made from discarded tin and detritus.
