Marc de Jong, born 1970 in Zurich Switzerland, has completed a Bachelor of Fine Art, and Diploma in Fine Arts (Painting), both at Victorian College of the Arts. De Jong has also been awarded an Advanced Certificate of Art and Design from Prahran College of TAFE.
De Jong claims the digital pixel as his own by transposing the immaterial into a hand made dot in the traditional medium of oil painting. His paintings appropriate a range of images collected from the internet, television and newspapers. As a graffiti and stencil artist in his own right, the back of his canvases, covered with stencils and stickers, reveals his artistic double life.
Solo exhibitions include Marc De Jong New Works, Spacement gallery, Melbourne (2005), Mad Max Paintings, Spacement Gallery, Melbourne (2004) and More Readvertising, Revolver upstairs, Melbourne (2001). Recent group exhibitions include Space Invaders, National Gallery of Australia, Canberra (2010), The Shilo Project, Ian Potter Museum of Art, Victoria (2009) and Flaming Youth, Orange Regional Gallery, Orange, NSW (2006). De Jong has been exhibited as a finalist at the Art Gallery of NSW, Sydney, for the Archibald Prize (2010), the Sulman Prize (2009) and the Wynne Prize (2008).
